The Swansea High School boys track team picked up several top-10 finishes, which included a victory in the 4x100m relay on March 29 at the Lexington High School Invitational.
The Tigers 4x100m relay team set a new SR with a time of 44.65 seconds to win the event over Kenan (44.96), Aiken (46.11), Lower Richland A Team (47.53), Calhoun County (48.93), Lower Richland B Team (49.10), and A.C. Flora (49.21). Members of the Tigers 4x100m relay team include Dayyan Felder, Jalen Parrish, MJ Reed, and Justin Thompson.
In the 100m, MJ Reed notched a sixth-place finish with a time of 11.73 seconds. Reed’s time was also a PR on the season. Reed also picked up another PR, running a 24.02 in the 200m finals to place eighth. Teammate Jamal Smith also ran well for Swansea in the 200m finals, finishing 14th with a time of 24.44 seconds. Smith’s 200m time was a PR.
Jamal Smith (55.84) and Dayyan Felder (56.95) placed ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 400m dash. Both Smith and Felder set a new PR in the 400m. In the 400m hurdles, Justin Thompson earned second place with a time 1:02.40. Lower Richland’s Tyler Graves won the race with a time of 58.50 seconds.
The boys’ 4x400m relay team, which includes Josh Burrell, DaQuarius Crum, Dayyan Felder and Jamal Smith, posted a new SR with a time of 3:57.25 to finish eighth. In the 4x800m relay, Swansea came away with a fifth-place effort as well as another SR, running a time of 9:47.00. Members of the 4x800m team are: Bryce Wojick, Michael Vacchio, Dayyan Felder and Justin Thompson.
The Tigers continued to excel on the afternoon in the field events. Jalen Parrish posted a 6-00.00 mark in the high jump to place third, while Josh Burrell cleared 8-00.00 in the pole vault to finish fourth. Swansea placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the long jump with Jalen Parrish (20-07.00) and MJ Reed (19-09.00). Parrish also set a PR in the triple jump (44-10.50) to finish fourth. Jacob Riley (38-06.50) and Marquis Sease (38-04.00) placed ninth and 10th in the shot put. Sease also threw a PR of 98-06 in the discus to place sixth.
