Multiple Teams · Swansea, Battery Creek Set to Face-off in Season Opener

Swansea High School opens the 2017 football season on the road on Friday as the Tigers travel to Beaufort, S.C., to take-on Battery Creek High School. Swansea defeated the Dolphins last year, 46-27 at Swansea.

Tigers’ head coach Greg Wright enters his second season as the leader of this young and talented team. Last season, Wright led his team to a 3-8 overall record that included a trip to the 2016 South Carolina High School League Class 3A Playoffs. There, Swansea suffered a 56-6 loss to Bluffton High School.

Battery Creek finds itself with a new head coach this season as Walter Wilson takes over the reins to guide this team. The Dolphins are coming off of a 2-9 season, which also included a berth in the Class 3A playoffs where Battery Creek was upended by Brookland-Cayce in the opening round, 42-7.

Both teams are looking to set the tone for their season on Friday. Swansea hopes to use the momentum from their 7-6 victory over Keenan High School in the Joe Tuberville Jamboree last Friday as a stepping stone for what is to come this season.

Swansea and Battery Creek are set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.. Come out and support your Tigers.
