The Swansea High School Athletic Department is proud to announce the inductees into the Class of 2021 Lexington School District Four Athletic Hall of Fame.
John Petrey – A member of the class of 1978, Petrey was a four sport athlete, earning 14 letters during his high school career. As a senior, he was selected as an All-State Football player and played in the Shrine Bowl. During the winter, he was a three year letterman on the basketball team and as a junior helped lead his team to a Conference and Lower State championship. He spent his springs jumping from the baseball diamond to the golf links, playing both sports all four years of high school. Petrey returned to Swansea in 1990 as the school’s Athletic Director and Defensive Coordinator on the football team. He led the defense on four teams that reached the state championship game, winning three in a row. He was also the first assistant coach ever named the South Carolina Football Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year in 1996. Under his guidance from 1990-2000, Swansea’s Athletic Department won six state championships.
Barnell Mack – A member of the class of 1981, Mack was a three sport athlete, excelling in football, wrestling, and track and field. As a senior, he was selected as an All-State Football player and played in the North-South All-Star game. During the winter, he is one of the most distinguished wrestlers in South Carolina history, winning the individual state championship all four years. He was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the State Tournament as a Senior and was named an All-American. Mack also excelled in Track and Field, winning the Conference in High Jump, Pole Vault, and the 110 M hurdles as a junior and senior.
Jackie Robinson – A member of the class of 1989, Jackie was a dominating presence on the basketball court for four years. During his career, he amassed over 1,000 career points and was an All-State selection as a junior and senior. He was named the Player of Year as a senior by The State newspaper and was a McDonald’s High School All-American Honorable Mention. He also lettered in football and baseball. Jackie went on to be named one of the 50 Greatest Players in MEAC history during his college career at SC State and is a member of their Hall of Fame.
Tamara (McNeal) Perdue – A member of the class of 1992, Tamara terrorized opponents on the hardwood playing varsity basketball for 6 years. Tamara was named All-Region four times and was the Region Player of the Year her junior and senior seasons. She was an All-State selection as a sophomore, junior, and senior; she was also the AA State Player of the Year as a senior. During her career, she scored over 1,000 points and played in the 1992 North-South All-Star game where she won MVP honors.
Dennis Walker – A member of the class of 1993, Dennis shined on the football field, wrestling mat, and on the track. As a senior, Dennis was a state champion in three sports. The starting running back on the 1992 State Championship football team, Dennis was named Region Player of the Year, All-State, and was the AA State Player of the Year. He was also selected to play in the North-South All-Star game. In wrestling, Dennis was a member of the 1993 State Championship wrestling team and was an individual state champion as a junior and senior. He was selected to participate in the North-South Wrestling All-Star tournament. In the spring, his attention turned to the track. His freshman year he was a region champion member of the 400 Meter relay team and as a senior he won the individual state championship in the 200 Meter Dash.
