The Tigers travelled to Hopkins, SC on Friday night to take on 4A Lower Richland High School. The game saw a lot of offense and even a 50 minute lightning delay. The Tigers fell behind by two touchdowns in the second half, but kept fighting to pull within in two points in the final minutes. After the Tigers recovered an onside kick, they ran out of time trying to get into field goal position to win the game.
Defensively, the Tigers were led by senior Tadrick Hallmon (LB) who tallied a team high 14 tackles with a sack. Senior Trenton Taylor (DE) added five tackles with a sack. Sophomore Messiah Robinson (DB) also had an interception.
Seniors Pryce Whitten (QB) and Mikey Jones (WR) combined to power the Tigers, offensively. Whitten rushed 14 times for 105 yards and three touchdowns. He also connected on 13 of 23 pass attempts for 210 yards and two more touchdowns. Jones was the beneficiary of seven of those passes for 140 yards and both of the receiving touchdowns. Junior returner MJ Reed also returned a kick off 80 yards for a touchdown.
The Tigers (0-1) will host Gray Collegiate (0-1) next Friday, August 30 in the home opener. Kick off is set at 7:30 pm.
